We Knew Him When: Jim Rugg

Jim arrived at SPACE in 2002 under the nom de plume, Dick Troutman, with some "Outfitters" under his arm. Unfortunately, I never picked up a copy. A year later "Dick" was back with the "Street Angel" mini-comic and he got me hooked. In 2004 and 2005 Jim himself showed up. He turned up again in 2008 without anything new. (Yeah, we keep track. Creepy.) So we're really excited he will be making his triumphant return to SPACE this year with not just one new book but three-- One Model Nation from Image, The Guild from Dark Horse, Afrodisiac from Ad House.

One Model Nation is an original graphic novel from Image, written by C. Allbritton Taylor, also known as Courtney Taylor-Taylor, lead singer of The Dandy Warhols. Credited as "historian" is Donovan Leitch, of Nancy Boy, Camp Freddy, and some movie acting roles. The two are co-credited as coming up with the original concept as well. Jim produced the bulk of the art.

It's a "historical fiction" about a German band called One Model Nation that is active during a time of political upheaval.

The Guild is a three issue mini series written and created by actress Felicia Day, the book is based on the award-winning internet show of the same name. Artwork on the project is provided once again by Jim Rugg. Its storyline explores the lives of a group of internet role-playing gamers known as the Knights of Good.

And last but not least -Afrodisiac. With Afrodisiac Jim is teamed once again with his Street Angel writer, Brian Maruca . Afrodiaiac is a send up of the blacksploitation movies and comics of the 70's.

Guy Davis

I'm thrilled to hear that Guy Davis is tabling at the show this year. I've been following Guy since his days at Caliber on Baker Street. Currently he's been working on BPRD for Dark Horse.

Past work includes Sandman Mystery Theatre (DC), his creator owned Marquis series (pictured av, Unstable Molecules (one of the best Fantastic Four stories to come out in recent memory), Baker Street, Zombies that Ate the World, and many more.

Here's a recent interview with him via CBR.
