A Bowl Full of Happiness at Wild Goose Creative

The artwork for A Bowl Full of Happiness is on display this month at Wild Goose Creative, and we're having an artist reception/jam party on Thursday, October 18 from 6 to 9 pm.

Come out and enjoy great snacks, fun conversation and the chance to add random panels to jams of various sizes! No previous cartooning experience necessary - trust me, that's how I got started.

A Bowl Full of Happiness is an anthology of comics about Sea Monkeys, spearheaded by the Sunday Comix group as a fundraiser fro the Hero Initiative, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping comic book creators, writers and artists with health, medical, and quality-of-life assistance.

Copies of A Bowl Full of Happiness, as well as prints of the fantastic back cover created by Mike Carroll, will be available at the reception, with all proceeds going to the Hero Initiative.!/events/453944807982707/

Kickstarter Projects

There are a number of Kickstarter projects that deserve support right now.

Most notable is Ken Eppsteins Nix Comics 2013-It's the Big Ask!
Ken, who everybody in Columbus should know because he's so busy getting people around here to not only notice his comics but also the entire Columbus Comics community's work, is trying to fund all his 2013 projects in one swoop!

Also Bruce Holland Rogers' Chapbook 101.

District Comics is a graphic anthology featuring lesser-known stories about Washington, DC, from its earliest days as a rustic settlement along the swampy banks of the Potomac to the modern-day metropolis. Spanning 1794–2009, District Comics stops along the way for a duel, a drink in the Senate's speakeasy, a look into the punk scene, and much more.

Oulipo Workshop with Matt Madden

Oulipo Workshop with Matt Madden

Sat, May 12, 2012 | 1:00–4:00PM
Wexner Center for the Arts
Cartoonist Matt Madden, creator of 99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises in Style, leads this workshop that shows you how to utilize the principles of Oulipo to create cartoons under artistic constraints.

The rules, or constraints, can be simple or complicated, silly or willfully perverse: Maybe each panel would show a close-up of a hand, or zoom in on a single object? Or maybe the comic would be readable in more than one direction? This practice of using constraints to spark creativity connects to a vanguard French literary group whose name, Oulipo, comes from a phrase, Ouvroir de Littérature Potentielle, that translates loosely to “workshop for potential literature.”

No prior experience is necessary, and materials will be provided. Advance registration is required and space is limited. Register here. Call (614) 292-6493 for more info.

Cosponsored by Ohio State’s Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum
