Call for Submissions for Sunday Comics Coloring Book

Canada Keck and Ray Tomczak, on behalf of the Sunday Comics Group, are pleased to announce that we are now accepting submissions of artwork for the group's latest publication, The Sunday Comics Coloring and Activity Book. This will be an all-ages coloring and activity book set to debut at SPACE 2017 with proceeds benefiting A Kid Again, an Ohio charity that provides emotional support to sick kids and their families.
We're envisioning an 8 1/2 x 11 square bound book of up to 50 pages, to sell for $10.
Artists are invited to submit up to three 7 1/2 x 10 single page coloring or activity pages. We will try to use them all if space permits. If space is limited, we will consult with you about which ones to include.
Remember that this is aimed at kids, so submissions should be suitable for all ages.  So, of course, no sex, gore or foul language.  Remember to leave your drawings open for color, and if your submission includes puzzles or riddles or such, don't forget to include the answers for the key at the back of the book.  Also, please submit 2or 3 short sentences about yourself and your work.
Digital riles should be at least 300 DPI in JPEG (preferred), TIFF, or PDF format.  Send these to Canada Keck at kitakitsune@rocketmail.com.
The deadline is FEBRUARY 11, 2017.
If you have any questions, email Ray Tomczak at tomczakraymond2@gmail.com
Have fun with it and we look forward to seeing what you come up with!

SPACE 2016 is a Wrap!

The winter wonderland of  Small Press & Alternative Comics Expo (SPACE) 2016 was a great time. I hope everybody made it safely home. The free admission increased attendance by about 33 percent.  We'll never be sure of the exact number but we got an estimate from the program book count.

I'd like to thank both exhibitors and attendees. Thanks for braving the weather and making the show a success.  Also thanks to all the SPACE Prize and program book sponsors who really lightened the financial burden and helped make the free admission possible. We also increased table price slightly so thanks to the exhibitors for helping make the free admission possible. Thanks to the Northland Performing Art Center for doing a great job hosting us. A special thanks to the Laughing Ogre and the Kafe Kerouac for the great pre- and after-parties and Caitlin McGurk for organizing the after party.  And a big thanks you to the SPACE crew my wife, Kathy, my son, Bob, Tracy Santos and Richard Ketterjohn.
We'll be back next year once again at the Northland Performing Art Center on March 25 & 26, 2017.
(Thanks to Jerry Smith for the photo I stole. It's the only one I saw where you can see the sign at our back door.)

SPACE Exhibitors Bio Part 8

 Ryan Smith:
Ryan Smith began cartooning in 1999 and continued publishing on the web and print to this date. His current series, Accursed Dragon, is a light hearted fantasy story focusing on humor and adventure.
Greg Sorkin:
Greg Sorkin is your typical every-man. When forced to wear pants, he puts them on one leg at a time just like you. By day, he’s an office drone; by night, he writes, produces and letters comics and designs logos. A pop culture junkie, his interests include TV, movies, comics, video games and buying guitar equipment he doesn’t use enough BUT CAN’T STOP PURCHASING. Check out his work at gregsorkin.com so he can continue to buy more gear.

Melinda Timpone:
White Noise is a post-apocalyptic science fiction webcomic that has been running for almost ten years.  It follows genetically engineered soldiers as they find each other and band together to protect what remains of humanity.  Mindy started the project as a love letter to the animation and comics of her youth, and it has since grown into an epic tale in its own right.

Ben Tye:
Ben Tye is both a musician and cartoonist. Normal days can find him in the general Minneapolis area working on comics or practicing with his band, Ungrateful Little String Band.

Bruce Worden:
Constantly confusing optimism with sarcasm, Bruce is totally sure his comic series "Woodstalk" (about zombies at Woodstock) will be the next big hit. Until that happens, he is best known for his rock-n-roll picture book "Goodnight Keith Moon" and his pictoblog “Homophones, Weakly.” He lives (that is to say, bikes, eats chocolate, and collects records) in Ann Arbor, Michigan with his wife and son.
Jason Young:
If not for comics Jason would probably have done something really great with his life. Won't you at least read his comics so it won't have all been for nothing?
Jason Yungbluth:
MAD magazine cartoonist and publisher of Deep Fried, Weapon Brown and PEEK!

Cait Zellers:
Cait is a comic artist and illustrator working out of the weirdness that is Austin, Texas. She's the creator of Hey Chikita Hey! In her youth, she was captivated by Japanese cartoons and is occasionally found playing dress-up as some of her favorite characters. Her first published work was a monthly high-school newspaper comic titled Orange Drink. She currently believes she’s developed a sophisticated palate due to her interest obscure artsy anime.
Rick Schlaack:
Rick Schlaack is the Vice President of Blind Alley Comics out of Lansing, MI. He's been suffering for comics since 2009, but his love of art and writing go back to the cradle (and perhaps beyond). Not pulling any punches, S.U.C. dabbles in anything from religion to conspiracy theory all while dancing in moral shades of gray. Sinister Undertone Comics has quickly began to gather a name for itself on Facebook (facebook.com/Sinisterundertone) and Twitter (@SinisterUndertn) as well in the underground comic communities of the country. With their success at Detroit Fan Fare in 2013, the momentum has built to an almost religious fervor! S.U.C. already has a fan base that is anxiously awaiting the company’s 2 launch titles: “Karma” and “the 7″. Our full list of titles are as follows: Karma, the 7, the Ballad of the Walker, Shine, Spiryt, Juiced, Sixkiller/Colder, Lifeline, Conduit, Dusk & Dawn, The Dayton Family, Deacon Board, and Hellspeak the Hangman.

J.R. Mounts:
I'm an independent comics guy that lives in Atlanta, Georgia and creates, writes, draws and publishes my own parody comic titles, "Fried Pickle Noir" graphic novel series and "Scairy Tales: the not so scary fairy tales" family comic strip, among others. I spell 'scary' with an "i" to combine the words scary/fairy so that readers don't think I do horror comics.  scairytalesnoir.com
I've been appearing at conventions throughout the South and have traveled even further to promote my self-publishd comics at Heroes Con, Dragon Con, Baltimore Comic Con, NC Comicon, Indiana Comic Con etc...and many more.
'Fried Pickle Noir' is my most popular comic series. Exactly like it sounds, this comic book series is about Fried Pickle detective Q Cumbersome's fight against the mob element in a town called The Pits. Currently, there are currently 4 collected books and a card game. It's a crime noir parody that can be thought of as 'Sin City meets Veggie Tales'. Meant for laughs but is true to crime. Puns abound in this series and can be read for ages 13 and above. It's rated 'V' for vegetable violence. It was recently reviewed favorably at Ain't It Cool News.
'Scairy Tales: the not so scary fairy tales!' is my all-ages comic strip style series about little kids who dress up all year round as monsters and superheroes and deal with daily school life until they discover that monster children live across the bridge! Think of it as 'Calvin & Hobbes meets The Nightmare Before Christmas'. It's okay for all ages but best appreciated for those who like Peanuts or Calvin & Hobbes humor. There are currently 3 collected books, a card game, coloring book and a cd musical called "SNOMBIES! A Musical Monsterpiece" about reanimated zombie snowmen called SNOMBIES that invade both towns, hungry for...CLOTHES!
I love to laugh and support the independent movement of artists breaking out and creating their own characters, of which I am proud to be among them.

Karl currently lives in Denver, CO with a beautiful woman, his trusted banjo, a pair of cats who stalk him for food, and is always looking for a better place to get a drink (which he writes about on his blog: 30 Miles of Cocktails). He also hates writing about himself in the third person. It’s creepy.
http://karlchristiankrumpholz.com/

Juan Lara:
The comics you will find are not about a robot stealing lunch money from little kids. Robot Bully is simply the name of the website. Most of the comics you will find involve a teenage werewolf named Mims…or you might find more autobiographical comics.
You will also find comics about robots, super villains, and luckless creatures of the night. I like to try out new things here, and experiment with new ideas.

Nola Lee:
Illustrations, comics and cartoons by Nola Lee; a sneezy, dancing, always snacking freelance illustrator based in the Queen City. When she isn't making sweet treats in her basement apartment she can be found sipping coffee nose deep in a pile of Sailor Moon mangas.
